What Is PE Laminated Paper Used for?

PE laminated paper is used when ordinary paper needs better resistance to moisture, oil, dust, abrasion, or direct contact with a product surface. It combines a paper base with a polyethylene layer, creating a smoother and less absorbent surface while retaining the flexibility and converting advantages of paper.

Unlike plain Kraft Paper, PE laminated paper does not absorb liquids as quickly. This makes it useful for industrial wrapping, separation layers, protective packaging, printing, and applications in which paper fibers should not come into direct contact with the packed item.

How Does PE Lamination Change Paper?

Paper naturally contains pores that absorb moisture and oil. Adding a continuous PE layer closes much of this porous surface and creates a physical barrier between the paper fibers and the surrounding environment.

The resulting material can provide:

  • Better moisture and splash resistance

  • Reduced oil and grease penetration

  • A smooth, low-friction contact surface

  • Improved resistance to tearing during handling

  • Less paper dust or loose fiber on protected surfaces

  • Better dimensional stability in humid storage conditions

PE laminated paper is water-resistant rather than permanently waterproof. Its performance depends on whether one or both sides are laminated, the condition of the edges, the thickness and uniformity of the PE layer, and the length of exposure to water.

Industrial Packaging and Surface Protection

One common use of PE laminated paper is wrapping or separating metal sheets, components, tools, and hardware. The PE surface helps keep paper fibers, dust, and moisture away from the finished surface.

It can also reduce friction between stacked products and protect polished or coated surfaces during storage and transportation. However, standard PE laminated paper does not contain a vapor corrosion inhibitor. Projects that require active corrosion protection should use a specified rust-proof or vci paper rather than assuming every laminated paper prevents rust.

The roll should also be allowed to acclimate before converting when there is a large temperature difference between the warehouse and production area.
